Softly As In a Morning Sunrise

"Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" is a jazz standard composed by Sigmund Romberg with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II for the 1928 operetta The New Moon. Originally crafted as a tango, the piece has undergone various tempo transformations, notably in jazz renditions. While there is no record of Django Reinhardt recording this particular composition, it has been interpreted by numerous jazz artists, including The Modern Jazz Quartet. Their 1958 recording exemplifies the song's adaptability within the jazz genre.
