Black Orpheus

"Black Orpheus" (originally Manhã de Carnaval) is a Brazilian bossa nova and samba classic composed by Luiz Bonfá with lyrics by Antônio Maria. The song gained international fame through its use in the 1959 film Black Orpheus. Django Reinhardt did not record this particular piece, but its melody and emotive qualities fit well within the jazz tradition, and many jazz musicians have since interpreted it. The song is beloved for its rhythmic beauty and poignant melody, capturing the spirit of Brazil while inspiring countless jazz renditions.
